If so these are just some of the many symptoms of a failed Motronic DME unit. With the 3.2s, we estimate at least 1/3 of all cars will exhibit failure, if its unit has not already been repaired or replaced some time in its life. It is not a matter of if, but when it will fail, leaving you stranded when you least expect it. Thousands of dollars are spent by owners each year on replacement of sensors, meters, plugs and wires, relays, towing etc. for such conditions before repairing/replacing the true cause of such failure. At 30+ years old, heat, vibration, and age are all factors that lead to degradation of the unit and components within. Unit failure can often be traced at least a year before the driver experiences problems.
With 964s it is not uncommon for the car to intermittently shut off, or intermittenly start or not start because of the failure of the DME control unit..
Having repaired hundreds of units over the years, we have seen almost every type of failure multiple times and can trace the fault and repair your unit to full original operation and performance. In addition, all units are rebuilt to be better and more reliable than when they were new, replacing out of spec components, and addressing and reinforcing all the typical failure points of these units so the rebuilt unit you can expect to last at least another 30-40 years, if not forever. Even if you don't notice any problems now, it is not a bad idea to have your unit serviced and rebuilt now, to avoid the above problems that plague a high percentage of 911 owners.
